Some kids dream of playing in the superbowl. Others fantasize about singing in American Idol. My Holly's supernal wish is to teach her class. Thus, while other kids were spending their "Dolphin Fins" (the school's reward for good behavior) on little treats and such, Holly saved ALL of her Dolphin Fins for the grand prize--to TEACH. After reaching this unprecedented goal, her teacher, Mrs. Bane, scheduled Holly's teaching debut for the Friday before Holly's birthday, December 5th.

At first I was a little skeptical as to how serious this was going to be--I mean, what could a 6 year-old teach her classmates for an hour? Apparently I had underestimated both Holly and her teacher. Darling Mrs. Bane had written up a detailed schedule for Holly to follow. I walked in just as Holly, wearing Mrs. Bane's voice amplifier, was giving the weekly spelling test to her classmates. Next the students sat in the "calendar corner" while Holly helped them with the usual routines charting weather, time, dates, and events. "Ms. Brock" as her classmates called her, then gathered her students around the carpet for "circle time". She read stories, lead a discussion, and even guided her students into making a "story map". Afterwards, Holly walked around the class helping students finish their own maps. As you can see from the pictures, Holly was COMPLETLY in her element. A happier child could not be found on the planet the morning of December 5th. She was livin' the dream.

Mrs Bane said she never worried about wether or not Holly was up for the task--while Holly was teaching, she said the hardest thing was remembering that Holly was, in fact, only 6!
