Last Tuesday (election day, of all days) Abigail woke up complaining that her front tooth was hurting her, but after a cursory glance, I told her everything looked fine. She mentioned it again about an hour later, and I told her we’d floss it. In the process of looking for floss, she ended up falling on the tile and banging her upper lip. Aaron checked her lip, then asked me if we had a “pin” so we could pop something on Abby’s face. The “something” on Abby’s face ended up being an ABCESS located just above the tooth she injured when she accidently dove head first into our acrylic piano bench last year. Her tooth turned gray and started to die. Pop it? Hmmmmm. NO.
We headed to her dentist who took an x-ray and showed us how the root had deteriorated since May and that we needed to have the tooth “Put in a Box”. This popular pediatric dentist had an assortment of wonderful euphemisms designed to keep children in the dark as to what was REALLY about to happen--ie. her tooth was going to be doing the Tango with a metal plier ASAP.
As you can see from the pictures, she got her tooth pulled about 24 hrs. later. After a short screaming episode. “Dr. Whinny” calmed Abby down by quietly singing the song that Abby’s permanent tooth was now able sing since the infection had been taken out. (genius move on her part--Abby was mesmerized)
Abigail left "Dr. Whinny's" with a cache of office treasures: 4 stickers, a special hot pink tooth box, a monkey out of the gumball machine and a beaded bracelet out of the treasure box.
After paying the bill, I realized “Dr. Whinny” hadn’t done too poorly for 20 mins. worth of work either. I guess I was the only one leaving empty handed...
wow! that is pretty graphic. don't you love how blogging makes you document such events! she is as beautiful as ever. good thing it was her baby tooth!
